Guatemalan House Hunters - Conclusion
/In case you missed it, here's a link to the first installment of this series.
The votes are in (for both the US Elections and for which house we chose in Guatemala).
86% picked #5, Calle Frutal House
9% picked #2, Barrio Monterry House
5% picked #1, Los Manos Condo
The wisdom of the crowd wins it. We picked house #5. Thanks for everyone that played along. Here's some info about the house/property.
- The location could not be more central for us. I measured it today with my GPS watch. We are 1/3 mile from the school, 0.4 mile to the dispensa (grocery store), and a little over a half mile to the market. It's perfect.
- It's very secure. There is an industrial strength gate separating our house and the two other houses on the property from the street. Plus a parking spot behind that gate is included (but since we are close to everything our car just gathers dust).
- The lawns of each house and a common area, which has a swing for the kids, are very well maintained. A young gardener is in the yard 3 times a week.
Here's a better look at the place (some old and new pics).
The front porch, with the front door hidden behind the tree.
Living room - we get a lot of natural light in from the windows.
Fireplace that we've never used.
Stairs that lead to the loft / kid's room / playroom
Tag's side of the loft
Elle's side, and the place where the toys go.
View from the loft to the dining room.
The kitchen is small but it works well for our needs.
The tiled bathtub. Bathtubs are hard to find here.
One other rare and nice feature of the house is that all of the windows have screens. They are great at keeping the bugs out.
That's it...we hope you enjoyed the tour of our house. More info about our adventures are coming soon.
